1. Turbulence was created in 1994 when I was stationed in Sugar Grove, West Virginia. I was in a writing group and I wanted to write a story of a hero that bounced around in time.

2. Quantum Leap and Voyagers! were a huge influence on the initial version of Turbulence. I wanted to create a hero who bounced around in time empowered with powers to fit what was required to save the day.

3. Being that he was bouncing through time Turbulence’s initial look was a lot different. He wore a long leather duster and sported an 1885 Colt Peacemaker. He even had long black hair.

4. The original idea behind Turbulence’s symbol was twofold. One Part Sheriff’s badge, one part X-men tribute. The sheriff’s badge went along with the duster and six shooter. However the eight pointed star came from a tribute piece the people of Savage Land made for the X-men after they saved them. It was an eight pointed star, one point representing each member of the team. I loved the symbology of that. And boom his symbol was born.

5. In the Australian outback run of the Uncanny X-men it was hinted at that Wolverine and Storm were more than just friends. I loved this idea because they were two of my favorite heroes. So Turbulence’s base power set was the idea of merging Wolverine’s and Storm’s powers. Likewise his name Turbulence was a cross between Storm and Wolverine as I wanted something that could emulate both.

6. The modern Turbulence only has two powers. Well known is his healing factor. Lesser known is that he has a psychic shield which dampens psychic attacks against him and makes telepathy contact very difficult. This actually causes problems with the Fugitives because he can’t hear Siphon in his head like Phade can.

7. Turbulence was almost published once… kind of. In 2008 I got involved with a group of fellows with big dreams but little business sense called X-Comikz. Through this group I got a full comic drawn out, even got couple pages colored too. Sadly as the business portion loomed things unraveled quickly. So Turbulence didn’t see print until much later, and that was as a guest appearance.  

8. Turbulence is destined to become the embodiment of ‘Redemption’. But that story arc is a long way off.
